Below The Belt Grooming Guide for Men & Women
This is the corner of grooming nobody brings up, which has always struck me as daft, because it's the one that wrecks more days than the rest of it put together. I built BTB around exactly this. Groin, inner thighs, under the bust, anywhere that runs hot and damp and starts to rub. The spots your shower gel and your armpit deodorant were never made for, and were never going to sort.
Think of this page as the map. What below-the-belt grooming actually is, what it covers, and where to go for the specific thing bothering you. I'm not going to rewrite every guide on the site here. I'll point you at the right one.
What Is Below-The-Belt Grooming?
It's the everyday care of everything under the waistband. Groin, inner thighs, and for women the underboob area on top of that. Anywhere heat gathers and skin ends up dragging on skin or on fabric.
Washing is part of it. Only part, mind. A proper routine also means keeping moisture down, staying on top of odour, and killing the friction before it leaves you raw.
The one thing people get wrong, and I read these emails all day so take my word for it, is lumping the whole lot together. Sweat, smell and chafing are different problems. They feel the same. They aren't. Treat them as one and you'll keep reaching for the wrong fix.
What Does It Actually Cover?
Quick version, if you're skimming:
| Grooming concern | What helps | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Groin sweat | Keep it dry, use an intimate deodorant made for external use | Fresh & Dry Balls |
| Groin odour | Wash properly, manage the moisture | How to Stop Body Odour |
| Sweaty balls | Moisture and odour control | How to Stop Sweaty Balls |
| Inner-thigh chafing | Take the friction out with anti-chafing protection | Men's / Women's Anti-Chafing Cream |
| Running chafing | Protect the spots that rub on repeat | How to Prevent Chafing When Running |
| Travel chafing | Prep the rub-prone areas before you set off | How to Prevent Chafing When Travelling |
| Underboob sweat | Manage moisture and friction | Fresh & Dry Boobs |
| Intimate washing | A gentle cleanser made for the area | Intimate Wash for Women |
Most blokes and most women need one or two of these, not the full shelf. Match it to the problem you've genuinely got.
Sweat, Moisture and Odour
Your groin sweats. So does everyone's. It's a warm, shut-in area doing what warm shut-in areas do, so there's nothing to fix about the sweating itself.
The bother starts when that damp sits on the skin and bacteria get to work. That's the smell. Not a hygiene failure, just biology left unmanaged. For the men, Fresh & Dry Balls is the one I made for this, a fast-drying gel for external use that keeps things dry when the day drags on.
If sweaty balls is the main event, the How to Stop Sweaty Balls guide goes right into the why and the how. And if you've ever wondered whether your normal deodorant would do the job down there, Ball Deodorant vs Regular Deodorant is the honest answer. Short version, it's not the same skin and it's not the same product.
For odour more generally, sweat and bacteria and all of it, How to Stop Body Odour covers the lot.
Why Does the Groin Get Sweaty?
Heat, mostly. Exercise pushes it, hot weather pushes it, and clothing with no airflow traps the lot against you.
Sweat on its own doesn't smell. Leave it sitting there and the bacteria do, and that's the point in the afternoon you start to notice. Keep it clean, keep it dry, and it stays a non-issue.
Chafing and Friction
The other big one, and the one people are most sheepish about raising. Don't be. It's about the most common thing going.
Chafing is friction, plain and simple. Skin on skin, or a seam on skin, over and over till it gives up and goes raw. Sweat makes it worse, because damp skin drags instead of glides. Anti-chafing cream sits between the surfaces and takes the friction out, and we do a men's version alongside the women's. If it's a regular thing for you, How to Stop Chafing For Good has the full breakdown.
If You Run
Running stacks the odds against you. Hour after hour of the same contact rather than the odd brush, and the sweat never lets up. Cream on before you set off, top up past the hour. Miss that and you'll find out about it in the shower after. How to Prevent Chafing When Running has the proper runner's version.
If You're Travelling
Long days on your feet round somewhere new, hours in a seat, heat you're not used to. It all piles on. Sort the friction before you head out, not once you're already sore. How to Prevent Chafing When Travelling is the holiday-specific one.
Below-The-Belt Grooming for Women
None of this was ever a men-only thing.
Women get plenty of the same, thigh rub and moisture and irritation, plus a couple of their own in underboob sweat and intimate hygiene. The women's range is built round those.
Thigh Chafing
Chub rub, if we're using the term people actually search. Inner thighs meeting on a warm day, on a walk, mid-workout. Women's Anti-Chafing Cream takes the friction out of the spots that need it, applied before you head out rather than after you're already sore.
Underboob Sweat
Heat and movement under the band means moisture, soreness and rubbing, and it flares in summer or during exercise. Fresh & Dry Boobs keeps the area dry. The full rundown is in How to Stop Boob Sweat and Underboob Sweat.
Intimate Washing
Here's one I'll go to the wall on. Stronger soap does not mean cleaner. Intimate skin is more acidic and more sensitive than the rest of you, and hammering it with standard shower gel is how you end up irritated and blaming your hygiene. Our Intimate Wash for Women is made to match that skin properly. Intimate Hygiene 101 explains the pH side of it if you want the detail.
A Simple Routine
You don't need a cupboard full of stuff. Four things, done properly.
Wash the area as part of your normal shower, and go easy, nothing harsh on sensitive skin. Then dry it properly, and I mean properly, because leftover moisture is behind most of the grief around the groin and thighs. Work out what you're actually dealing with before you buy anything, sweat or smell or rubbing, because they don't share a fix. Then use the right product for that one thing and follow what it says on the tube. Adjust it for the day, mind. A desk Tuesday and a 10k in July aren't the same ask.
Which BTB Product Do You Need?
Start with your main gripe.
| If you're dealing with | Reach for |
|---|---|
| Sweaty balls | Fresh & Dry Balls |
| Groin odour | Fresh & Dry Balls |
| Moisture around the groin | Fresh & Dry Balls |
| Inner-thigh chafing | Men's or Women's Anti-Chafing Cream |
| Chafing while running | Anti-Chafing Cream |
| Chafing while travelling | Anti-Chafing Cream |
| Underboob sweat | Fresh & Dry Boobs |
| Women's intimate washing | Intimate Wash for Women |
No need for a complicated stack. One product that fixes your actual problem beats five that half-cover it.
A Few Habits That Help
Small stuff, but it adds up. Wash daily, that's the base everything else sits on. Dry the folds and creases where damp likes to hide. Wear something breathable, because tight airless kit just traps heat and makes the rubbing worse. If you know a big walk or a run is coming, get ahead of it and protect the rub spots first rather than waiting for the sting. And stop treating the skin down there like it's your armpit, because it isn't, and a standard deodorant doesn't belong anywhere near it.
