1. Exit, Serbia (6-9 July)
Hosted in a magical Petrovaradin Fortress on the banks of the River Danube just outside of the Serbian capital of Belgrade, Exit Festival gives you a bit of everything with Rag 'n' Bone Man, Liam Gallagher, Hardwell and Faithless all playing this summer. Guaranteed to be hot and cheap in comparison to UK festivals!
2. Roskilde, Denmark (24 June - 1 July)
Rivaling Glasto's title as Europe's biggest rock festival, Roskilde spans four days with a line-up including Foo Fighters, A Tribe Called Quest, The Weeknd & Arcade Fire. Despite it's size, the festival is run as a not-for-profit and festival goers nominate charities to recieve funding from the money raised. Apart from the great music and international crowd, Roskilde has some interesting traditions such as the famous 'Naked Mile'. 3. Primavera Sound, Spain (31 May - 4 June)
Hosted in the concrete Parc Del Forum only 15 minutes by taxi from Barcelona beach, Primera Sound is perfectly located for people looking explore a beautiful city and go to a top European festival in the sun. Catching up with Bencassim, Primera Sound has become a big hitter on the international scene with this years line-up boasting Bon Iver, Frank Ocean, The XX and Arcade Fire. From tapas by the sea to live rock/hip-hop/indie music under the sun, Primera Sound sounds like a winner.
4. Secret Solstice, Iceland (16 - 18 June)
Fancy swimming in the famous Blue Lagoon and going to a four-day festival? Secret Solstice is the festival for you. The festival takes place during the incredible summer solstice which means that the the party goes on well into the early hours because the sun, amazingly, never sets. Also this year they are offering the opportunity to watch intimate live gigs inside an Icelandic glacier! Headliners include Foo Fighters, The Prodigy, Rhye and Richard Ashcroft.
5. Colours of Ostrava, Czech Republic (19 - 22 July)
This festival takes place on the site of a former coal works with live bands, film screening, workshops and lectures hidden amongst blast furnances, mines and ironworks. The festival is action packed with more than 350 events happening over one weekend. The success of this alternative festival as seen its size and popularity grow hugely in the past 15 years. Headliners include Imagine Dragons, Norah Jones, Jamiroquai & alt-J.
5 Essential Tips for Festival Goers
1. Take a slightly larger tent than you need - good for storage and comfort
2. A portable battery pack to keep your phone charged incase you lose your mates.
3. Pack light and think 'layers' - you'll regret overpacking when the festival is done & you're hungover...
4. Stash some emergency cash in your phone cover or shoes
